Analysis of Triazine Herbicides in Water Using LC-MS/MS and TraceFinder Software
12 Jul 2010: In this application note, TraceFinder software was used in conjunction with an online preconcentration system, EQuan™, for the robust and reproducible analysis of large volumes of drinking water. Triazines were quantitated at the sub-ppt level, and several commercial bottled drinking water samples and one sugar-free soda sample were analyzed for the presence of triazines.

LC/MS/MS Analysis of Diuretics in Urine: Prevent Matrix Interference with Proper Column Choice
03 Jun 2010: This application note shows how choosing a selective, retentive, and inert RP-HPLC column can improve the quality of analytical data. Because of its high degree of unique aromatic selectivity based on π-π interactions, the Ultra II® Biphenyl column can retain hydrophilic aromatic compounds better than phenyl hexyl columns, while still achieving a fast, 8-minute run time including re-equilibration.

Rapid Profiling of Prostanoids in Biological Samples
03 Jun 2010: Prostanoids are produced from specific biomakers for inflammation. This application note describes a 6.8 min method for identifying a mixture of 9 prostanoids using Jasco X-LC. Separation of these compounds using conventional HPLC typically takes around 21 minutes.

Applications of the MODcol Dynamic Axial Compression Spring Column Technology
10 May 2010: This application note presents the MODcol® Dynamic Axial Compression Spring® Column technology from Grace Davison Discovery Sciences. This technology compensates for voids formed by bed settling, extending column lifetime and improving column performance without an external power source. The highly versatile MODcol® DAC Spring® Columns provide flexible technology for preparative and semi-preparative chromatography.

Determination of Impurities and Related Substances Using Newly Developed 2.6 μm Core-Shell Kinetex™ LC Columns
01 Dec 2009: This application note shows newly developed Kinetex™ 2.6 μm core-shell particles are capable of achieving chromatographic performance equivalent to columns packed with traditional fully-porous sub-2 μm particles. They also demonstrate substantially lower operating pressures that are compatible with conventional HPLC instrumentation.

Detection of Pharmaceuticals, Personal Care Products, and Pesticides in Water Resources by APCI-LC-MS/MS
16 Nov 2009: This application note by Thermo Fisher Scientific demonstrates an APCI-LC-MS/MS method for quantifying a wide range of compounds from a diverse group of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and personal care products. These compounds were tested in the low ng/L range in surface waters with good precision and accuracy. This case study was based on research at the University of Montreal.

Method Transfer Between UHPLC and Traditional HPLC Applications
02 Sep 2009: This application note discusses the VisionHT™ column family which unifies LC technology platforms and improves laboratory efficiency. This Universal Column platform allows the methodology to be developed in the classical 4.6 x 150mm 5μm format, and then transferred seamlessly to UHPLC style or alternate Fast LC system type.

Analysis of (Fluoro) Quinolones in Honey with Online Sample Extraction and LC-MS/MS
12 Aug 2009: This application note demonstrates a sensitive, reproducible method for the quantitation of fluoroquinolones in honey using automated sample preparation and LC-MS/MS - saving 86% on sample preparation over traditional methods.

High Resolution and Precise Mass Accuracy: A Perfect Combination for Food and Feed Analysis in Complex Matrices
12 Aug 2009: In complex sample matrices such as food, feed, hair, and honey, limited resolution leads to inaccurate mass measurements caused by unresolved background matrix interferences. This application note shows a full scan screening approach using a novel single stage Orbitrap™ mass spectrometer coupled to U-HPLC, capable of providing high mass accuracy at resolutions of up to 100,000.

The Extraction and Analysis of Melamine in Milk-Based Products using Discovery DSC-SCX SPE and Ascentis Express HILIC LC-MS/MS
06 Aug 2009: This application note describes an assay for the extraction and analysis of melamine in whole milk, dry milk powder, and infant formula. Because of melamine’s basic and polar properties, a strong cation exchange SPE phase was required for adequate recovery and selectivity during sample preparation. When coupled with HILIC chromatography, excellent analyte retention was observed and MS response was enhanced due to the high organic mobile phase inherent with this mode of chromatography.
